I’m just happy seeing a plain white bloom!
Last evening right at dusk this wonderful adult Tomato Hornworm Sphinx Moth was zooming around my Nicotiana Sylvestris (flowering tobacco), Only the Lonely. I am shocked at the length of the proboscis in this photo! No other insect group has such length (it can be up to 10” long) - CRAZY.
The Hummingbird is totally confused by this plant so I was mystified as to what pollinator was interested in it —- now I know! I never have Tomato Hornworms on my Tomato plants and I’m wondering if it is because I have my Nicotiana in another bed and they prefer it or have set up camp here ? Seems to be a good thing. I have read to not plant it near your vegetable garden because it is in the Tobacco family.
Ok, this was one of those super freaky nasty things that I encountered trying to get a shot of this lovely tree… I smelled something dead and finally figured out what it was.
I can only guess that a large bird of prey killed this poor rabbit (I wondered why I only have one rabbit each year hopping around) and hung it in the tree about 10 feet up to dine on for a few days.
W O W. Interesting but gruesome all the same… that’s nature for ya.
Sometimes I’m just blown away by nature and think to myself - how could this be real.
My blue Hydrangea Bush is covered with hundreds of blooms this year.
Breathtakingly shocking.
Burgundy wine Ornamental Japanese Maple and whirly seed pods.

The Eastern Redbud is a Virginia native tree and is incredible on Forsythia Hill.
My second favorite tree behind the Weeping Cherry.
